Biografie

Maria  Lyudko  was  born  in  Leningrad  in  a  family  of  opera  singers . She started studying music when she was 4. In 1981  Maria  went  to  the  special  Music School  of the St.Petersburg  State Conservatory  to  study  piano , where she graduated  with  excellent  marks  in 1992 . At  the age  of 8  she  sang her  first  opera  part ( The Nightingale  in "The Quartette" by N.Briansky) with the chamber  orchestra   and  soloists of  the Mussorgsky  theatre. She   played  children’s  parts  in "Lentelefilm" studio’s productions ( "Iwan Pawlow" by  K.Gevorkyan , "Za Narvskoi  zastavoi" by V.Okunzov ) .
 

In 1997  she  graduated  with  honors from  the Department of History  and  Theory of Music  of the  St.Petersburg State Conservatory ( Class of Professor , Doctor of Philosophy in Arts Maslenkova L.M.), in 1999  Maria graduated  with honors  from  the Vocal Department ( Class of Senior Teacher Bourkovskaia S.N.) .
Maria was a holder of the D.Shostakovich scholarship, Fujiko Mazuuro scholarship (Japan ), the scholarship  of the   Union of Concert  Artists of  Russia .

In 1996 Maria took a special practice course at the International Bach Academy in Stuttgart (classes of Edith Matiss and Anne Reynolds). She  took part at  master classes  of  Ileana Cotrubas , Robert Holl , Michael  Chans , Larissa  Gergieva , Maria  Cleva , Wilfried  Jochims , Anna  Haenen , Kerry  Woodward , Florian  Heirick, Matti Palm , Verena Keller , Elisabeth Promonti , Linda Finni , Franco Pagliazzi , Vladimir Atlantov , Ruben Lissizian, Makvala Kassrashvili. From 1999 till 2006 she was a Soloist of the Academy of Young Opera Singers of the Mariinskii Theatre.


Since 1996 she  has been  teaching  at the Department of Musicology of the  St.Petersburg Conservatory, from 2005 on Maria is  chief  of Solfegio Department ,  she also started   teaching solo singing  at  A. I. Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia . In 2008 Maria has been appointed chief of Old Russian Singing Art Department  at the Conservatory.

In 2008 Maria has been awarded the Honored Artist of Russia title.

 

SHE BEGAN HER SINGING CARRIER AS COLORATURA SOPRANO.
 
In 1996 -99 Maria sang the following parts on the stage of the Conservatory Music Theatre:
Susanna ("Le nozze  di  Figaro" by Mozart ) , 
Rosina ("Il  barbiere  di Seviglia" by Rossini ) , 
Violetta ("La Traviata" by Verdi )

In 1998 she  participated in  the  joint project  of Baltic  countries - the  performance of '' Die Zauberflote'' by Mozart  directed  by  Joseph Wallnig ( Salzburg ) in Lithuania ( Nida ) in which she sang the  part  ot  the Queen of the Night .

In 1997- 2000 on the stage of Municipal "Zazerkalie" Theatre 
Maria  performed the parts  of The  Queen  of the Night  ("Die Zauberflote'' by Mozart ) and
Olympia ("Les Contes d' Hoffmann" by Offenbach )

In 1998  she sang the  part  of Blonda ("Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail" by Mozart ) directed by the People's  Artist of Russia Sergei Stadler  at the Hermitage Theatre.


As an understudy at the Mariinsky Theatre
she  prepared the parts of Amina ("La Sonnambula" by Bellini ) ,
Norina ("Don Pasquale" by Donizetti ) , Contessa de Folleville ("Il viaggio a  Rheims" by Rossini )

Maria participated at  many concerts on the  Mariinsky stage :
"Viva I’ Italia!" , "Mozart Gala" ,"New Year’s Eve  Gala" directed  by maestro V . Gergiev  etc.
She participated in productions  of  Mariinsky :
"Zar Demian"( as Arthur)
"Die Entfuhrung"( Konstanze )
"Der Schauspieldirektor"( Silberklang )


From 2002 on Maria has been  concentrating on  lirico spinto repertoire.

In 2001 Maria  sang the part  of Violetta ("La Traviata" by Verdi ) on the  stage  of the State  theatre in Saratov.

In 2003 her debut  on the stage of the Bolshoi theatre of  Russia in Moscow took place (Anne  Truelove, "The  Rake's progress " by Stravinsky , conducted by  A .Titov,directed  by D. Cherniakov ), in 2005 she  sang  the  part of  Nannetta ("Falstaff" by Verdi in co-production with Teatro alla Scala , conducted by A.Vedernikov) and 1st.Lady ("Die Zauberflote" by Mozart ,conductor S.Bredford, directed   by  Graham  Vick ).

In 2003 on the  stage of Komishe Oper Berlin  she  performed the part  of  Swan Princess ("Zar Saltan" by Rimsky-Korsakov , directed by W. Muller , directed  by  H. Kupfer ) and  sang the  part of  Euridice ("Orfeo" by Gluck  with famous contralto  Eva Podles , conductor  P.Peire ) in Yury Temirkhanov’s  "The  Arts  Square" Festival.

In 2005 she sang the world premiere of opera on ice “Infinity” (Princess Elle) by A.Soloviova at the  Ice Palace in St.Petersburg.

In 2006 on the stage of State theater in  Kazan and on  tour  in  Holland  she  sang  the part  of Donna  Anna ("Don Giovanni" by Mozart directed M.Boemi , production  by D. Prins ) .

In 2007 she sang the world premiere of “Dracula” (Minna) by A.Tikhomirov in St.Petersburg, directed by G.Devdariani.

In 2008 she sang Monna Vanna (“Monna Vanna”) by Rakhmaninov and Zabava (“Dobrynia Nikitich” by A.Grechaninov) in   St.Petersburg with the  “North  Venice”  artistic enterprise.

In 2001  she participated  at the Russian premiere of  Handel’s oratorio  "Brockes  passion'' (die  Glaubige  Seele) conducted by  N.Kornev  and "The Lazar’s  Resurrection'' (Maria Magdalena) by Schubert - Denisov conducted by  E.Serov  on  the stage  of  the  Grand  Hall of  the  Philharmonic in  St.Petersburg .
 
Maria's  oratorio-repertoire includes  soprano parts in Symphony №4 by Mahler (conducted by N.Alexeev), Requiem by Verdi, Mozart, Dvorak.  Ware-requiem  by Britten , Noel oratorio  by  Saint - Saens , Weinachts-oratorium  by  Bach, Carmina  Burana  by Orff, Nelsson-messa and Creation by Haydn.

Maria  sang  at the  world premiere  of symphony-phantasy "Farewell to..." by A.Petrov , ballet  with voice "4 women's seasons" by T.Kogan , cantata "We are in St.Petersburg..." by O.Petrova , Missa brevis  by  A.Novikova , concert  for  soprano  and    orchestra  by N.Berestov , cyclus "As  a  flower , as a candle" and 4 Waltzes by G.Belov (dedicated to M.Lyudko ).

Maria is  prize winner  of the  All-Russian  and International  competitions :
“Mario Lanza”  ( 1998, St.Petersburg, 1 prize ),
“Alexander Pushkin” ( 1999, 1 prize in the category of  opera  singers ),
"The Spring of Romance'' ( 2000, St.Petersburg, 1 prize),
“Leonid Sobinov” ( 2000, Saratow, 1 prize),
“TV Romanciada” ( 2000, Moscow, 1 prize),
“Isabella Jurieva” ( 2002, Tallinn, 1st prize, public  prize , jury prize ) ,
“Hans Gabor Belvedere” (2002, Vienna, 3d prize in the operetta category, Moscow - prize, special  prize of  Graf zu Solms Laubach Opernwerkstatt )
Second International competition “Saint-Petersburg reflected in world’s musical culture” (2006, St.-Petersburg, 1 prize)

2007 Maria  sang for President of Russia V. Putin in Sotchi. 

She  has  recorded  3 solo  CD albums  with  pianist  D.Chassowitin  (the XIX-XXI centuries  Russian  romances  "The  words  of  love" - 2002 , "Romance  about romance"- 2006, “I am aware of many things” - 2008 ) , participated at  many audio recordings , show programs  broadcasted in Russia and  abroad.

In  2000  Maria  recorded the soundtrack  to the movie  "The  Garden  was  Flood  with  Moon " directed by V.Melnikov    ( "Nika" and Moscow cinema festival awards ).

She participated in Music Festivals:
"Art Square" by Y.Temirkhanov , "From  Avant - Garde  to  Nowadays" , "Christmas Music Meeting  in  the  North  Palmyra" , "Music  Spring" , "Zarskoselky" , ''Names  of  St.Petersburg" , Leonid  Sobinov  Opera  Festival, Fiodor  Shaliapin  Opera  Festival , Valery Gavrilin Festival , "The 10-th Muse"  in  Russia ,  Ivan  Sollertinsky  Festival in  Byelorussia , Homage  Tino Pattiera  Opera  Festival  in  Dubrovnik , Croatia , Listz  evenings in Wrozlaw and TV Festival of  chamber  music in  Poland , Edward Tubin Festival in  Tallinn , Estonia," Russische  Welt" in Munchen , Germany , “Bolshoi” in Holland etc .

Maria regularly performs   with following  orchestras : Symphony  orchestra  of  the  Shostakovich  Philharmonic, State  Wind  Instruments  Orchestra ,  Andreev  and  Ossipov  Russian  Folk  Instruments  Orchestras , National  Symphony   Orchestra of Estonia and  many  other  orchestras  in  Russia  and  abroad. She  has been performing  at   the  very best concert venues   of  Moscow , St. Petersburg , in other major  cities  of  Russia , Germany , Poland , Estonia , Austria, Holland ( including Royal  Concertgebouw in  Amsterdam ), USA, Belgium, The Faeroe Islands.

Maria is the member of  jury of the  All- Russian  TV competition  Romansiada ,  Russian song competition for children "The Hope of Russian Romance" , children's radio competition "The sounds of music", art festival “Rainbow of sounds”, the young classical singers competition in Estonia.
